Frequently asked questions

What file format does Cruxly export?

Cruxly exports a .txt file with tab-separated question and answer pairs. This is the standard import format for Anki and works on all platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android) without any plugins.

Can I export to .apkg format?

Currently we export to .txt format for maximum compatibility. The .apkg format would require additional processing and may limit cross-platform support. The .txt import is just as effective and works everywhere.

Will my Anki settings (intervals, ease) be preserved?

When you import Cruxly cards into Anki, they start fresh as new cards. Anki will apply your deck's default settings. If you want specific settings, configure your deck before importing.

Does Anki export cost extra?

Anki export is included with the Student plan ($6.99/month) and Pro plan ($12.99/month). Free users can create quizzes but cannot export to Anki.

Why use Cruxly if I already have Anki?

Anki is excellent for spaced repetition but terrible for card creation. Typing 50 cards takes hours. With Cruxly, you photograph your notes and have import-ready cards in 60 seconds. Use Cruxly to create, Anki to review.

Can I edit cards before exporting?

Yes. All cards are editable in Cruxly before you export. Fix any OCR errors, rephrase questions, or add context. Once you're happy, export to Anki.
